My Academic Training and Professional Assignments

I am honored to say that I am a product of the public school system. While most educators baost of their academic training at the undergraduate level, I would like to start out where I went to high school. I do this, not because it is one of the more prestigious one…no. I do so because it’s where I work now. In 1991, I stepped foot onto John F. Kennedy High School. I played football there, made many friends, and graduated in June of 1995. After graduating from my undergraduate studies, more on that later on, something in me drew me back to what I was familiar with and taught my first English Class in September of 2001.

This was me, my teammates, and a few friends after a pep rally in 1994. I was a junior then, and was very happy to see this picture in my senior yearbook the following year.

This Department Photo appeared in John F. Kennedy’s yearbook in 2001. This was my first year as an educator in NYC’s public school system. I still work there today.

After graduating from high school in 1995, I attended and graduated from Borough of Manhattan Community College in 1998. I was young, and trying my best to figure out what my career was ahead of me. I originally wanted to become a Kindergarten Teacher and majored in Early Childhood Education. However, when I enrolled in THe City College of New York that fall, I changed my mind and majored in English. While at CCNY, I played lacrosse and, again, made many friends. My first course as an adjunct instructor at The City College of New York was in 2020. I have taught here ever since, and am proud to meet you now.

After many years, in the Department of Education, I went back to school at my alma mater and attained a second graduate degree in Language and Literacy. This was during the pandemic in 2019. During my 3rd semester there, I was honored to teach my first course on Zoom. This is a shot of me in my living room in the fall of 2020, while I taught Composition 110.
